Baobab Experience : The House of Gabriel

CURRENT STATUS : ONGOING

The Gabriel Foundation currently funds an apartment in Rome, with Baobab Experience, for refugee and asylum seekers from various counries.

General objective: support refugees and asylum seekers in emancipation from the condition of need and in realizing paths of self-determination and social inclusion.

Specific objective: achieve, for and together with refugees and asylum seeker beneficiaries, conditions of economic independence, autonomy housing and positive integration into society, respecting individual attitudes, skills and aspirations.

Why This is Needed :

The project has as its pivotal point the rental and management by Baobab Experience of apartments in Rome, where they can offer hospitality and cover the expenses of basic needs, including medical care, to migrants who are legally residents in Italy but do not have accommodation availability.

By contributing for a sufficient period to the maintenance and safety of beneficiaries and by pursuing a personalised integration process, the aim is to lead beneficiaries rapidly to autonomy and positive integration into society. This process will make beneficiaries aware of their rights and have the ability to exercise them, the possibility to respect civil duties and to deal with public institutions, private bodies and citizens.

Having a home or apartment is an integral part of the path to self-determination.

BEAUTIFUL GOAL REACHED : The first family in the Gabriel House has now been able to get paying jobs and afford their own apartment!
